1. I don't have the Ripper Free version of Platinum, yet I'm getting CSS encryption errors.Answer: This error occurs when the Region setting for your burner is incorrect. Here are the steps to take:
2. What is Drive Select, and where can it be found?Answer: This program will tell the system which drive is the DVD burning drive. If you have different DVD burning devices, this is where you can go and tell the system to use a specific one. It is located in the Programs menu under DVD XCopy Platinum folder. It can typically be found in the following folder: C:\program files\321 studios\platinum\driveselect.exe
3. Why is the Start button greyed out when I try to burn my DVD?Answer: Check your media format. Make sure you are using the correct blank media for your burner(DVD + or – R/RW). You may also need to run the Drive Select utility included with Platinum. The Drive Select utility is located in the following folder C:\program files\321 studios\platinum The name of the file is driveselect.exe If you only have one DVD Burner the program will seemingly do nothing but it has. After running Drive Select re-run dvd x copy and see if the problem still exists.
4. The program is telling me to run Drive Select. Why does this happen?Answer: When this happens it is because DVDXCopy Platinum is not recognizing the burner on your computer. To run drive select do the following. Go to the Start Menu Go to Programs (in XP it’s All Programs) Go to DVD X Copy Platinum Click on the DriveSelect option Select your DVD burner from the list. If no window appears, this is normal. It simply means that you only have one available burner and the program will select it automatically.
5. Why does my Start button not light up when it is time to burn to disc?Answer: Make sure you are using the right format disc with your burner. Some burners will support only a +R or a -R disc - they may not support both. Put a blank disc in your DVD burner (our program does not have to be running at the time). Under My Computer, right-click on the DVD burner and choose Properties. In the Properties window, click on the Recording tab at the top. Under Recording, there should be an option “Enable CD Recording on Drive” – please make sure that is checkmarked. If not, do so, click Apply, then OK. If you have two burners in your computer (ex. a DVD burner and a CD burner), go into the C:\Program Files\321 Studios\XPRESS folder and run the DriveSelect program. Choose your DVD burner from the list (if there are no burners in the box, use the drop-down menu arrow). Make sure that your DVD burner is set as the Master on the Secondary IDE channel.
6. Why doesn't the next button light up using advanced mode in Platinum?Answer: Next to the name of each titleset there will be a check box. Make sure that the check box is selected next to the name of each titleset. Once you have selected a titleset the next button will light up.
7. Software BlackListAnswer: The following programs can cause problems while using our software:
8. Why must I remove programs from the blacklist for Platinum to work?Answer: Our software is not aggressive and will yield to other processes that are trying to access the DVD writer. When in the burn process with our product you want to eliminate any interference, hence the removal or disabling of conflicting software. With the conflicting programs usually only a particular component needs to be removed, the program itself need not be removed completely. With programs that do need to be removed entirely an alternative program, that does not conflict, can replace it.
9. Why wasn't a manual included in the box?Answer: We are releasing updates with new and exciting features for our products for your convenience on occasion. When these changes occur, various features in our software may be changed to the point that a manual would no longer apply. We have released an online product walkthrough for your convenience, which you can download from the following link: http://www.321studiosinc.com/Software/Platinum_Guide.pdf
10. Why am I getting an error "Cannot Write Archive.txt"?Answer: DVD X Copy XPRESS or Platinum is trying to write information to an invalid location. You need to change the location of your Temp Path. Create a folder on a hard drive with at least 10Gb free space. Go to Options in XPRESS or Platinum and make sure your Temp Path points to this new folder.
11. Why are there no drives displayed in my Drive Select list?Answer: If there are no drives displayed in your Drive Select list: Make sure that your DVD burner is connected into your computer. If your DVD burner is already connected then re-install the software. After re-installation, and you still do not see any drives listed in drive select, please click here to contact Technical Support.
12. What do I do if I get “Error Writing Disk?”Answer: Some movies have incompatible Titlesets or DVD authoring problems that result in problems backing them up. Below are some things you can try:
13. What if there is no drive listed in the Drive Select?Answer: Your VSO device may not be installed correctly. Contact technical support
14. Why will the Backup I just created play back on my computer but not on my home DVD player?Answer: If you are getting a backup that plays back fine on your computer, but not on your DVD player, this can be caused by several things. --- Your DVD player does not support playing the format of blank dvd you are using. Some DVD players only support playback of DVD +r/rw or -r/rw, or sometimes neither. You may also try a different brand of blank DVD. --- Some DVD Players do not like playing compressed media. Compressed media can sometimes overload the chip inside the player. This causes no damage, but the disc will not play. In order to test out whether this is the case, try to play the disc in a different DVD player, one that you know supports playback of your format of blank disc. If it plays back, you will know it is your player.
15. Why would I use Advanced over Simple mode?Answer: Simple mode is an easy process to backup your DVDs. It is as easy as 1-2-3. Step 1- Simply insert the DVD and click the Start button. Let the software copy the movie to the temp directory on your hard drive. Step 2-Once the software is finished copying the movie then insert a blank DVD. Click the start button again to write the movie. The software takes care of the rest and now you are ready to watch your new DVD.
16. After a successful DVD Backup the disc is Blank and doesn't play in any DVD Player Answer: It is recommend to use -R media. I recommend using a brand such as Verbatium, Ritek, or Benq. Please do not purchase memorex media. I have had a lot of customer that have problems using +R media. Once they use -R media the problems go away.
